Star fossil, crinoid cuddy bead open backed pendant
A St.Cuthbert bead fossil necklace set in sterling silver.
The handcrafted open backed bezel really showcases the central star detail of this fossil.
This fossil, locally known here in Northumberland as a ‘cuddy bead’ is a fossilised segment of a crinoid sea lily which is a plant like animal in the same family as the starfish which explains the central star cavity.
This fossil is ~300 million years old!
This fossil measures 11.7mm high, 9mm wide and 5mm deep.
It hangs 19mm from the medium/heavy weighted 18" sterling silver belcher chain.
