Silver crinoid fossil earrings

Silver crinoid fossil earrings

Silver Pentagonal Crinoid Fossil Earrings.

These elegant earrings blend contemporary design with the quiet beauty of ancient coastal fossils. At the top sits a twisted silver ring, offering gentle sparkle and texture, paired with secure stud fastenings for comfortable everyday wear.

Suspended below each ring is a pentagon-shaped silver crinoid fossil charm, handcrafted from fine silver clay. The design is created using a mould taken directly from a real St. Cuthbert’s bead found by the maker on Holy Island (Lindisfarne). This process preserves the tiny, authentic markings and natural geometry of the original fossil, giving each charm a delicate, organic character.

Once torch fired, the clay becomes solid .999 fine silver, capturing every ridge, line, and fossil imprint with remarkable clarity. Lightweight yet detailed, these earrings offer a subtle connection to nature’s ancient artistry and the storied coastline of Northumberland.

Perfect for lovers of coastal heritage, natural textures, and meaningful handmade jewellery.

What Are St. Cuthbert’s Beads?

St. Cuthbert’s beads, also known as Cuddy beads, are fossilised segments of ancient sea creatures called crinoids. Their distinctive shapes, often circular or pentagonal with natural star-like markings, have washed up on the shores of Holy Island for centuries.

Local folklore ties these fossils to St. Cuthbert, the island’s patron saint, and they were traditionally collected, treasured, and even threaded into necklaces as protective charms believed to bring good fortune.

The rings have a diameter of 8mm and the silver fossils are 7mm wide. The overall drop from the stud is 16mm.
