Star fossil, crinoid cuddy bead open back pendant
A St.Cuthbert bead fossil necklace set in sterling silver.
This fossil, locally known here in Northumberland as a ‘cuddy bead’ is a fossilised segment of a crinoid sea lily which is a plant like animal in the same family as the starfish which explains the central star cavity. It’s such a beautiful shape I handcrafted a backless pronged setting in sterling silver so as to highlight the central star. This fossil is ~300 million years old!
The circular fossil has a diameter of 10mm and the overall drop from the 18” sterling silver belcher chain is 13mm.
